Emperor’s Child “Who would like some more ice?”

Oil on canvas

75 cm x 60 cm

US $ 900  (NZ $ 1500)

I added a hint of red to the blue background colours to make them shades of cornflower blue, which is actually slightly purple. Because the main colour is purple, a mix of the two primary colours red and blue, yellow is the vibrant complimentary colour.

You may have watched ‘The March of the Penguins’? An amazing documentary about how Emperor penguins raise chicks through the Antarctic winter. So much sacrifice and care goes into raising one Emperor penguin chick in the harshest environment in the world. One fluffy, charming, fragile, resilient chick.

Do you also love penguins? I can’t say what makes them so appealing, perhaps it is because they are awkward, beautiful and humorous, rather like people.

How tender is the bend of that neck? Such love.
