Penguin Nap – Original Art and Fine Art Prints

A surreal oil on canvas painting of a champagne glass against a muted sepia background like that of an old photograph, with a vibrant pop of colour from the orange mandarin next to the glass, while in the glass, two penguins stand next to each other for a nap, each on top of a floating ice cube.

Oil on canvas   75 cm x 60 cm

Who Would Like Some More Ice? (Penguin Nap)

I would, yes please

Because ice is nice

In a cocktail glass

With a mandarin slice

I would, yes please

Because ice is a mat

For penguins in love

Who are taking a nap

I find all penguins very appealing, and Gentoos are delightful. This was painted from a photo of a bonded pair who were standing facing each other while having a nap.

How loving is that?

I wanted to have the sepia look of an old photograph, soft, muted cream and coffee, and then, of course, just for fun, I added the glowing orange mandarin. (Gentoo Penguins live on Antarctic islands and peninsula. They are classed and near threatened on the IUCN red list of 2007.)
